Mentorship Session Diaries: No Fear is Holding Me

Written By: Paul VanderGriendt, Event Management Coordinator Mentorship Session Diary. Entry 27

We should always be true to ourselves when charting a path and setting the goals that we want to achieve. By choosing a career that generally interests and excites us, we are able to become more emotionally invested and avoid procrastination, complacency and loss of motivation. It will always be hard work, but that becomes so much easier when there is passion and enthusiasm behind what we do. We can keep ourselves motivated by pursuing things that drive and inspire us.

Maintaining motivation is also something we can build into our routine to help ourselves stay on track and continue to strive for excellence no matter what comes our way. Having a plan and committing to that plan will help avoid distractions and optimize our effort into achieving success. Being properly prepared can set us up to execute at a high level and feel confident approaching doubt and uncertainty. As we continue to grow, it is important to put ourselves in new and difficult situations so that we can lean on our preparation and past experiences, while also learning to become adaptable and comfortable with uncertainty. When we are more adaptable as people, we are better able to navigate negativity and setbacks that may act as barriers to our success.

We can also help ourselves by setting up a support system and being around peers that push us be better all the time. Building positive relationships where we can have honest conversations that provide value through positive or constructive feedback will allow us to build confidence and maturity. Although we may have an ultimate destination in mind, it is good to focus on the process and not always the outcome in order to get there. By working hard, working smart and staying motivated we can achieve whatever we want.
